A love of Simple Breakfasts
If you haven’t figured out by now, we here at Our Sweetly Spiced Life love breakfast smoothies; they’re a staple of our weekday mornings. We’re always looking for new great recipes and ideas to go with our tried and true favorites. It helps, too, that smoothies are quick and easy, and can be eaten on the go (sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the morning, am I right?).
This latest smoothie gets its inspiration from a cookie we found at the Ethnic Enrichment Festival here in KC. We love going to this event every year and always love trying new and different things from the various booths that show up. For those of you who aren’t familiar, this festival welcomes many different cultures for the weekend and they feature great food, drink, music, dance, and more.
Last fall when we went we found these spiced date cookies (Kleicha I believe they were called). They were so delicious; light and sweet and with wonderful spices complementing the cookie. We decided that we could take these flavors and put them into a morning smoothie that would be a sweet treat and pick me up in the morning, while not having to feel bad at all about what we were eating.
Why We Love This Spiced Date Breakfast Smoothie
This smoothie is really easy to throw together and tastes amazing. Nut milk and bananas form a base that is kicked up with sesame seeds, cardamom, star anise, vanilla, and cinnamon and then sweetened with dates. These are all easy to find ingredients (if you don’t already have them on hand) so you can make this smoothie whenever you want!
This makes a great on the go breakfast smoothie or is also a wonderful simple dessert/afternoon snack. Just toss it all in the blender, mix it up, and enjoy! Let’s get to it!
